The Greater Vancouver Zoo received a cute, and extremely long limbed, addition to its brood Sunday night. Weighing in at over 58 kilograms and measuring six feet tall, a female baby giraffe was born to mom Eleah at approximately 9 p.m.
The spotted sweetie got a clean bill of health, and is already standing on her own. Though her mother won't nurse her, she is still getting acquainted with her family (Mom, Dad, and brother) on the other side of a safety wall.
The tot was on public display at the zoo's giraffe house for an hour yesterday afternoon, and will likely continue to make appearances several times a day.
"She reacted really well [to the crowds]," said zoo spokesperson Jody Henderson. "She was very calm."
No word yet on how or when zoo staff will determine the newborn's name.
