Stabbing spree sends five to hospital

By MATT KIELTYKA, 24 HOURS

Five people were taken to hospital Saturday evening after a random stabbing spree in Vancouver.

Vancouver police say a 30-year-old man began his spree just after 6 p.m. in the area of Broadway and Commercial Drive.

The event started when the suspect inexplicably stabbed a man in the back.

Over the course of the next half four, the man worked his way west, wildly stabbing four other men in the process.

The friends of the final victim, in the 1100 block of E. 11th Avenue, witnessed the event and began chasing the suspect on foot.

He allegedly tried to flee by stealing a vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

Police arrived on scene shortly after and were able to arrest the suspect in the 900 block of E. Broadway.

Vancouver police Const. Lindsey Houghton told media the victims were all taken to hospital but they are all expected to make full recoveries.

“In the grand scheme of things, their injuries were thankfully fairly minor,” he said.

Charges against the suspect are expected to be announced Monday.
