They're a drop in the bucket, but they won't dirty the Olympic city air.
Eight water-emitting Chevrolet Equinoxes will be part of VANOC's General Motors-supplied fleet of 4,600 vehicles. One of the four hydrogen-powered, electric fuel cell vehicles that hit Vancouver streets Monday was driven into a news conference at the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Centre.
"It moves like you can't believe and it stops when you want it to," said VANOC CEO John Furlong, who earlier test drove an Equinox. "It's just a great car."
The Equinoxes will rely on hydrogen filling stations at the National Research Council's UBC lab and near Pacific Central Station.
GM will also showcase two of its much-hyped Chevy Volt electric cars in Vancouver at Games-time.
The VANOC fleet includes Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles and Ford minibuses.
GM spokesman Stew Low said Pontiacs and Saturns were returned to dealers. Both brands were discontinued. GM drove out of bankruptcy after six weeks on July 10 with $50 billion in loans from U.S. taxpayers and $9.5 billion from Canadians.
