Inspiring people, one person at a time

By MATT KIELTYKA

She's rubbed shoulders with Oprah and Larry King, but life coach Lisa Nichols continues to stick to what got her there.

"My goal is always to encourage and inspire people," said Nichols, who speaks Friday night at the Vancouver Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre. "I spent the first seven years talking to abused women in shelters because I wanted to help. And now when I go to sleep I don't say to myself: 'You did good business', I say: 'Job well done' for helping that person."

Nichols is dubbed "the breakthrough specialist" for her motivational work, whether it's from speaking engagements, TV appearances, her bestseller No Matter What! or her work on several of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

If anything, the Los Angeles-native's motivation to inspire others has only blossomed in her 16-year career.

"I might even be more motivated now because I'm less afraid and have more tools," she said. "I still see the woman in the mirror who was new to this and there were so many doubts. So now I'm much more excited."

Tickets for her Burnaby engagement are available at www.newaspiration.com.
