BIKE BOOST

A poll released by the City of Vancouver, conducted by the Mustel Group, says the Burrard Bridge bike lane trial is receiving strong support from citizens. According to the poll, 45 per cent of people surveyed support the continuation of the bike lane trial compared to the 21 per cent opposed. Ninety per cent of cyclists and 79 per cent of pedestrians want to see the lane stay open.

DEVELOPING CITY

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts will be on hand at the Surrey Museum today to launch a new international design ideas competition that will help transform the city from a suburban community to an urban centre. The "Townshift" contest is seeking designs for five town centres.

FATAL ESCAPE

A 57-year-old man is dead after evading a CounterAttack roadblock at Sumas Way in Abbotsford and driving against the flow of traffic on Hwy. 1 Friday night. During his escape attempt, he collided head-on with an unmarked police cruiser but kept driving until police blew out the tires of his vehicle. When they checked the car, the driver was bleeding from his chest and a knife was found next to him. He died en route to hospital.

TASER ARREST

Vancouver police say a 47-year-old man is in jail after being Tasered by officers Friday night. The man was seen running from a home in the 6500 block of Hum Lu Sum Drive where he had allegedly just stabbed his brother in the shoulder. He then allegedly advanced on the police officers, was shot with a Taser and taken into custody. The brother is expected to recover.
