Gunshot victim goes silent

By MATT KIELTYKA

Investigators are getting no help from a man who checked himself into hospital early yesterday morning with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 41-year-old South Asian man showed up at a Vancouver hospital at 2 a.m. and police were instantly called.

Vancouver police spokesperson Const. Lindsey Houghton said the victim was uncooperative, but investigators were able to trace the incident back to a shooting outside an east Vancouver restaurant about an hour earlier that night.

TJ's Vegetarian Plus, in the 600 block of Kingsway, remained behind police tape yesterday morning as police scoured the scene for evidence.

"We have no suspects at this time and don't have a motive because the victim isn't cooperating," said Houghton. "We know he was with a group of people but don't know who they are."

While the shooting happened outside the restaurant, Houghton said the victim was inside at some point.

The restaurant's door appeared to have been knocked off its hinges.

The victim is not known to police, nor is the restaurant itself.

The victim suffered relatively minor injuries and was discharged from hospital by 10 a.m.
