The Greater Vancouver Food Bank got a literal busload of food yesterday after Coast Mountain Bus Company dropped off 7,000 pounds of food Tuesday.

A 40-foot bus was filled to the brim with non-perishable items, all donated by transit employees during the summer, and made its way to the GVFB headquarters Tuesday where it was greeted with open arms.

“We heard the Food Bank was having a really tough time and felt we could make a huge different,” said CMBC spokesperson Derek Zebel. “But I think the results of the food drive went beyond our expectations.”

The Food Bank has seen a 10 per cent spike in demand this year but, due to the recession, donations are at historical lows.
