2010 scams

The Better Business Bureau says a number of scammers on Craiglists and other online classified are cropping up with phony ads for rental properties during the Olympics. RCMP already dealt with one case where U.S. residents wired a $2,000 down payment on a property in Whistler. The transfer was only halted when Western Union noticed discrepancies with the landlord's contact info.

Violent robbery

Vancouver police say a 36-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being slashed in the neck by a robber in the 2800 block of W. 4th Avenue early Sunday morning. The attacker demanded the victim's wallet but fled from the scene empty-handed after the stabbing.

Top model?

Organizers of the third annual Vancouver' Next Gay Top Model say they're now accepting contestants in the popular contest. They're looking for men, 19 and older, who identify themselves as gay or bisexual for auditions Jan. 17. For more information, visit www.gaytopmodel.com or the Gay Top Model 2010 Facebook group.

Sales rebound

The province's real estate market continues to rebound after a horrid 2008, according to the BC Real Estate Association. According to their fall 2009 housing forecasts, residential sales have spiked by 20 per cent so far this year, and that trend is expected to continue into the New Year. The BCREA forecasts a further eight per cent jump in 2010 sales.
