The Swiss headquartered builder of scaffolds and bleachers for 2010 Winter Olympics venues violated provincial workplace safety, according to WorkSafeBC.
A worker fell 55-feet from a scaffold/bleacher deck at the Cypress Mountain snowboard venue on Oct. 6 around 5:15 p.m. when the deck was dislodged by a crane.
WorkSafeBC found Nussli Special Events (Canada) violated an Occupational Health and Safety Regulation that requires employers to “ensure that a fall protection system is used when work is being done at a place from which a fall of 3 metres (10 feet) or more may occur.”
Three WSBC officers met VANOC venue manager Gustavo Nascimento and Nussli project manager Marcel Berberat and interviewed two Nussli workers who gave written statements in German.
WSBC seized a pair of polyester slings and ordered VANOC and Nussli to conduct internal probes.
On Oct. 13, West Vancouver Police told 24 hours that a 63-year-old man was in critical, but stable condition.
Berberat and Nussli branch manager Martin Blackburn did not immediately respond to phone calls.
