Tight market
The owner of the company that monopolizes Olympic ticket sales in the U.S. has 8 per cent of the 1.6 million tickets for Vancouver 2010. Seattle Times reported Monday that Sead Dizdarevic of New Jersey-based Jet Set Sports and CoSport expects 63,000 clients for Vancouver 2010; he claimed a profit of $20 million to $30 million with 74,000 clients for Beijing 2008. The Times story said Dizdarevic, who made a $15 million deal with VANOC, has an inventory of 125,000 tickets. Some are sold individually, but many are bundled with expensive hotel packages for corporate clients.
Standoff
A Vancouver man is facing weapons and firearms charges after a three-hour standoff with police before midnight Monday. Police arrived at the 8600 block of Osler Street in response to calls about gunshots being heard. No one was injured.

The tone capability of the Long Range Acoustic Device the Vancouver Police Department purchased will be disabled, according to Chief Constable Jim Chu. Some members of the public were concerned the devices may be used as a weapon instead of simply as a public address system.
MADD ready
MADD Metro Vancouver's Project Red Ribbon is being launched today at 3 p.m. at Burnaby City Hall. Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan will tie red ribbons on emergency response vehicles. This annual project is to promote sober driving during the holidays.
