Police were investigating a heinous swarming of a 48-year-old aboriginal woman yesterday until her son came forward to tell police that he and his four brothers had attempted to rouse their drunken mother in a parking lot near the corner of 12th Avenue and Slocan Street Tuesday around 4:30 p.m.
When the teens’ efforts proved unsuccessful, they took away their mother’s 60-ounce liquor bottle and left her lying in the parking lot. A witness called police and described the incident as a violent attack. Other witnesses at the scene corroborated the story.
Patrol officers smelled alcohol on the woman’s breath but, fearing a head injury, concluded alcohol was not the sole reason for her state. Hospital officials later told investigators the woman was physically unable to talk. The woman came to yesterday.
