Port Coquitlam's MLA hopes the man who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl over the weekend is quickly put behind bars.
Mike Farnworth called on the community and police to do everything they can to ensure the suspect is caught as soon as possible.
"Quite frankly I think it's disgusting," Farnworth, the NDP's public safety critic, said Sunday. "I hope they catch him and do everything in their power to keep him locked up."
According to RCMP, the 15-year-old victim was walking across the parking lot of the Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex, 2150 Wilson Ave., around 1 a.m. Saturday when a man in a black sedan drove up to her. He tried to speak with her, but the teen walked away.
She was later approached by a man near the Port Coquitlam bus loop, and dragged into some bushes and sexually assaulted.
Police, who have labeled the assault "cowardly," aren't sure if the driver of the vehicle is a suspect, but they're searching for him as a "person of interest."
The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s.
He has a square jaw, broad shoulders and a muscular build.
He was wearing a grey hoodie, jeans and a white T-shirt during the assault.
Anyone with information is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
