Eileen Mohan believes she’s a step closer to justice after police made an additional arrest in the “Surrey Six” murder case Monday.
Sophon Sek, 30, has been charged with Manslaughter and Break and Enter in connection to the Oct. 19, 2007 gangland slayings at a Surrey condo – which took the lives of Cory Lal, Michael Lal, Edward Narong, Ryan Bartolomeo and innocent bystanders Ed Schellenberg and Christopher Mohan.
“The police always told me there were more arrests and I’m actually very delighted by this,” Eileen Mohan, Christopher’s mother, told 24 hours. “It’s encouraging that anyone who had a role in my son’s murder will be held accountable.”
Sek had just walked away with a $364,364 grand prize at the B.C. Poker Championships at Richmond’s River Rock Casino Sunday.
The prize money is now being held at the RCMP’s request, according to Great Canadian Gaming Corporation vice president of corporate communications Howard Blank.
“The money is officially [Sek’s] but what happens to it is up to crown prosecutors and police,” Bland said.
Four others were already facing murder charges in the case, while Dennis Karbovanec has pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says additional arrests and charges could be on the way.
