B.C. is preparing for its biggest shipment of H1N1 vaccines yet as the immunization drive kicks into full gear.
Deputy provincial health officer Dr. Eric Young told media yesterday that the province is set to receive 1.4 million doses of the vaccine over the next two weeks - more than B.C. has received total since the vaccine was made available six weeks ago.
"The amount coming in will more than allow us to meet demand," Young said. "It will be ready to go into people's arms as soon as possible."
The province is expecting to receive 634,500 doses by Thursday.
Young said that there were four additional H1N1-related deaths in the province last week, bringing the total number of deaths since April to 34.
Hospitalizations continue to drop, which further suggests the second wave of the virus is on the decline, according to Young.
The province hopes to provide everyone who wants the vaccines with one by Christmas.
