CRACKING DOWN
North Vancouver MP Andrew Saxton introduced legislation yesterday that would make Internet service suppliers - hosting sites, webmail portals, social networking sites and Internet service providers - legally obligated to inform police about any child pornography they become aware of on their services. Vancouver police Det. Russ Mitchell believes the act will speed up the time it takes for police to trace predators.
KIDNAPPING
A coalition of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside community groups will rally outside the Vancouver Police detachment on Main Street today to protest new legislation that would allow police to arrest homeless people and take them to a shelter during extreme cold weather. Critics have labeled the controversial provincial initiative as the "Olympic Kidnapping Act." The Pivot Legal Society is planning a legal challenge against the act, which they believe is "unconstitu- tional."
