WARNING FOR PEDESTRIANS

Police and ICBC are urging both pedestrians and drivers to take extra care during the dark days of winter after vehicles in Vancouver struck seven people Saturday. The worst collision involved two residents in their 70s being hit by a car in the 300 block of Prior Street. The 77-year-old man died in hospital. The woman, 72, remains in critical but stable condition.

POLICE OPEN TO INQUIRY

Vancouver Police Department says they're fully supportive of a public inquiry into the "missing women's" case and the Robert Pickton investigation after all the court proceedings for the convicted serial killer are over. Spokesperson Const. Lindsey Houghton said the VPD's stance has "always been clear" but wasn't made public until last week when the force wrote a supportive letter to families pushing for an inquiry.

ARTS CAMPAIGN RALLIES FOR SUPPORT

The Alliance for Arts and Culture has launched "Creativity Counts," a mass electronic campaign aimed at restoring government cuts to the arts. Organizers hope the cause spreads quickly through B.C.'s arts community with "a relentless drumbreat of protests, letters emails and community-based activism" ensuring politicians hear the message. For more information on the campaign, visit www.creativitycounts.ca.
