Sock it to 'em
By AMANDA OYE
Students from John Oliver Secondary School have thrown down the gauntlet, er, sock. The school's Eyes of Hope Club collected more than 4,000 pairs of socks through October for the annual Sox in the City campaign. The campaign benefits Vancouver Coastal Health's DTES Health Contact Centre, which has a weekly foot-care session for the homeless people of the area. And now they're challenging other secondary schools to meet or beat them. The school's original goal was 1,200 pairs, which would have meant each student would donated one pair, according to Thomas Harapnuick, vice-principal of John Oliver. The Eyes of Hope club chose the campaign "mainly because our administrator was so enthusiastic about it," said Leanna Ng, a Grade 12 student and the president of the club. This is the first year the club has participated in the Sox in the City campaign. |
