SWEET SIGN
Thirteen million cranberries will be playing a special role during the Olympics. Richmond announced yesterday that millions of floating berries will be dunked in the Fraser River alongside the Olympic Oval and form the Canadian Olympic Committee logo in a vibrant red that will be seen from planes landing at the Airport and by people outside the speed skating venue.
COACH CHARGED
North Vancouver police have laid seven charges against a 56-year-old junior hockey coach accused of sexual assaulting one of his players. RCMP say the charges against Dusan Benicky are all connected to a single victim, from the age of 10, between 1991 and 1995.
BELUGA NAMES
The beluga calf born at the Vancouver Aquarium earlier this year now has a name thanks to the Joyce family of Burnaby. After running an open naming competition, members of the aquarium have picked "Nala" as the beluga's name. Nala is actually short for Nalautsaagaq, which means surprise gift in the Inuit language of Inuktitut.
