Christmas came early to Vancouver city hall after the provincial government agreed to pick up $6.27 million in various Olympic costs.
Olympic operations general manager Peter Judd told staff and councillors yesterday via e-mail that a deal was reached for litter collection, transportation, snow clearing, bylaw enforcement and fire protection costs.
The province is paying $3 million up front with the remainder due April 30.
"Potential ongoing litigation after the Games related to Games bylaw enforcement will remain covered under the original provincial indemnity in the participation agreement," Judd wrote.
A B.C. Winter Games Secretariat representative who didn't want to be named said the "incremental costs" are related to the Multiparty Agreement signed in 2002.
"This payment is included with the province's $765-million Olympic operating costs envelope."
