HRH Prince Edward was literally given the royal treatment during his visit to the Paralympics Games’ Protocol Operations Centre inside Coal Harbour Community Centre.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson greeted the British royal on Thursday before the pair toured the facility. Prince Edward received many gifts, including a blue volunteer jacket and medallion commemorating the visit, for his ongoing support of the Paralympic movement.
“It’s a great honour for us to welcome you back as your visits came at key times in the development the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Robertson said. “Your effort was a great boost at the time and it’s wonderful to see you again.”
The Earl of Wessex spent time chatting with volunteers before meeting with VANOC officials and dignitaries from the Four Host First Nations.
The prince plans to continue touring Paralympic venues with a stop to present 100 young Canadians with Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
