Irish eyes were smiling on downtown Vancouver Sunday.
Thousands of people, many wearing four-leaf clovers, crazy wigs and variations of the Irish flag, painted the town green for the seventh annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.
“It is a great opportunity for the (Irish) community to get together,” said Dublin-born Eilis Courtney, “we get to see other Irish people and celebrate all cultures.”
Organizers also had some luck of the Irish.
After nearly a week of rainfall, Sunday’s parade saw nothing but sunshine.
“It’s perfect weather,” said Steve McVittie, who planned the event since its inception, “and its the biggest variety of people we have ever had involved.”
The parade featured nearly 100 entries, including dance groups, pipe bands and the Vancouver police motorcycle drill team.
