Fewer candidates running in civic election

British Columbians hoping to run in the upcoming municipal elections have until 4 p.m. Friday to register.

With the clock ticking, this year sees fewer candidates than previously.

As of Thursday, Vancouver had received six nominations for mayor, 23 for city council, 12 for school trustees and 14 for park commissioner. Mayoral nominations are down significantly from the 15 candidates that ran in the 2008 civic election.

Council nominations are also down from the 32 hopefuls in the last election.
