As the international gaming industry ponders expanding away from a male-centric audience, Vancouver Film School hopes to attract female game designers to tackle the issue.
Claiming a world-first, prospective female students can submit applications for the Women in Games complete-tuition scholarship from Sunday until April.
Dave Warfield, head of game design at VFS, said the traditional gamer demographic used to be 18 to 35-year-old males.
“Getting females involved in the design process would make for better games targeting that (female) audience,” he said.
The VFS, which hosted speakers from prominent gaming companies Bethesda, Eidos and BioWare over the weekend, boasts its female graduates currently work with Microsoft, independent gaming companies, and more.
Warfield added there are over 100 current game-developing companies in the Lower Mainland for aspiring designers. Check vfs.com for details.
