24 HOURS

Last month's three-day teacher strike resulted in an operational savings of $37 million, of which $30 million will go towards Bill 22's Learning Improvement Fund, Education Minister George Abbott announced Monday.

This doubles the first year of the LIF to $60 million and will be distributed to provincial classrooms with the highest needs.

The $7 million balance will go towards school boards for use in their respective districts. The second year of the LIF will see $60 million allotted for 2013/14, while $75 million is allotted for 2014/15 and each year following.
