Councillor backs Olympic Village low-income affordability 0
Vancouver Coun. Adriane Carr is supporting a push by low-income tenants at the Olympic Village condos to ensure living costs remain below 30% of their household income, paying for their utilities if need be.
The city has already been paying for the bills of some subsidized housing tenants, but the provision is due to expire in June.
Residents spoke out publicly last August, many complaining of water and energy bills that ranged between $48 to $148. A city official said those bills were credited back.
The rent costs for the low-income units are estimated to be around $400.
The motion is expected to be discussed at Wednesday's council meeting.
