Members from molecular scientist Fiona Brinkman's lab at Simon Fraser University have helped discover a new class of drugs for treating severe malaria.

Professor Brinkman said the new therapy "works in conjunction with anti-malarial drugs . acting as a novel anti-inflammatory."

This breakthrough "can significantly reduce fatalities" from severe malaria, she added.
