Pet deaths caused by coyotes

The serial cat killings haunting the Lower Mainland for the past year are likely coyote attacks, B.C. SPCA investigators announced Friday.

A human predator was originally suspected in the slayings due to the precise cuts. But the latest necropsies reveal the "skin tears and puncture marks" are damage by canine molars.

In total, necropsies were conducted on 20 cats, eight birds, a rabbit and a dog.

In five cases, causes of death could not be determined.
