BC SPCA will closely monitor the welfare of more than 60 pets now ready for release after their rescue from a former Burnaby resident earlier in June.

Sandra Simans kept 52 dogs and 16 cats at her rented home until the landlord evicted her for months of unpaid rent.

SPCA general operations manager Bob Busch said in a statement it was a very sad case of a rescue hoarder taking in far more animals than she was capable of properly caring for.

Although Simans has the option to reclaim the animals, the public can adopt unclaimed ones through Lower Mainland shelters.
