A Seattle man got a surprise visit from his city's police force Tuesday when SWAT team members appeared at his doorstep to inform him of a Canada-wide warrant stemming from 2011 Stanley Cup riot charges.
Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague said a warrant for Jensen Peter White, 21, was issued in late May after he failed to show up for a court date earlier that month.
The Seattle resident, who attended the University of B.C. last year, was charged in November 2011 for mischief and participating in a riot.
Seattle police Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said SWAT team members often supplement 911 emergency response calls, adding they were not concerned the 21-year-old was dangerous.
"The warrant is not extraditable from the United States, so we just put him on notice."
Vancouver investigators - who asked Seattle police to notify White of the warrant - have not heard from the wanted man as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Montague. He said White was last in Canada sometime between a January court appearance and his missed date in May.
