By Erica Bulman, 24 Hours Vancouver

A man was crushed to death in an accident at a concrete plant on Kent Avenue in south Vancouver on Tuesday morning, WorkSafe BC confirmed.

The worker was apparently behind a truck when the back gate of the truck opened and the elevated load of gravel was dumped on top of him, said WorkSafe BC spokeswoman Donna Freeman.

"Our officers are seizing the vehicle and an inspection will be conducted," she said, adding WorkSafe BC officers were at the site most of the day and proceeding with an investigation.

The man was an employee of Mainland Contracting Group, working for Lafarge Canada.
