A two-year-old girl riding a tricycle was run over and killed in Surrey Wednesday night.

RCMP were called to an alley in the 13400 block of 83A Avenue around 9 p.m. after the toddler was struck by a 2004 Saturn Vue, driven by a 51-year-old male, which was traveling towards 134th Street,. Police said the tot was riding her plastic tricycle at the time of the accident.

The child was taken by air ambulance to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to police. Charges have not been laid.

With extended daylight hours during summer, police warn parents and motorists to be extra vigilant about small children playing near roadways.
