B.C.'s Medical Services Commission takes action 0

Two private health care clinics could soon be forced to stop alleged illegal billing practices after B.C.'s Medical Services Commission filed a court-ordered injunction against the facilities.

Last month, the MSC released an audit revealing the clinics, both operated by Dr. Brian Day, were engaged in "extra billing." This occurs when a private health care provider takes government money to provide routine services and then also charges patients fees for the procedures.

The MSC gave the clinics 30 days to stop the practice, however, neither complied with the government agency's Aug. 18 ultimatum.

Day instead filed a lawsuit against the government earlier this month claiming certain provincial health care restrictions on private clinics violated patients' charter rights.
