Vacancies cost VPD
Higher than expected numbers of vacancies within the Vancouver Police Department has the organization's spending for casual and temporary workers over budget by $217,585, as of June this year.
The Vancouver Police Board meets Wednesday to look at its half-year report. The report also noted overtime costs, pegged at $1.04 million over budget, are higher "due to an increased number of callouts to meet minimums," and to patrol protests this year.
The department is currently in the midst of recruiting. Several swearing-in ceremonies have already taken place this year for new officers.
The overall projection, however, has the department within budget by year's end.
