They only opened in April, but Mounties say the first Canadian distributor of a high-end brand of Swiss bikes has already attracted the attention of thieves in the know.

"This is the first of its type in Canada. They're from Switzerland and they're very expensive. They're in demand. It's something new," said Cpl. Richard De Jong.

Mystromer E-bikes in North Vancouver was looted Friday by who police believe to be a pair of bandits in a cube-van type vehicle. They smashed the front door glass and took about $48,000 worth of bikes - the majority of the store's stock - before fleeing.

"Two people can load them up in a few minutes. They didn't take any other equipment with them, they didn't take any chargers, and it seems they know what they were looking for."

Twelve electric bicycles, each adorned with the STROMER logo, were lifted from the store. Each weighs about 22 kilograms and is valued at $4,000.

Mounties said it's likely the thieves left seven bicycles behind because their van was filled.

They're looking for witnesses and ask anyone with information to call 604 985 1311.
