Bus driver pepper-sprayed after altercation in New Westminster 0
New Westminster Police are looking for five people involved in an altercation on a Translink bus that resulted in two passengers and the driver being pepper-sprayed.
The incident occurred Sunday night when three males and two females boarded the bus at the 22nd Street Skytrain Station.
Sgt. Diana McDaniel said the group were under the influence of alcohol. One of the males became verbally abusive with the driver when the bus went over a bump, causing him to fall over in his seat.
The group left the bus when it stopped at McBride Boulevard and Colborne Street. As they were leaving, one of the males sprayed the driver with pepper spray before fleeing on foot with the group. Two other passengers were also affected.
Police and medical personnel attended but no one required hospital treatment.
