Burrard Bridge closed after Vancouver West End shooting 0

24 HOURS WITH FILES FROM KRISTEN ROSS

A daytime shooting in Vancouver's West End resulted in the Burrard Street Bridge being closed Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 3 p.m. police received several calls from people in the area of the 1100 Block of Jervis Street, at the south lane of Comox, who reported hearing gunshots.

Witnesses reported seeing a man with a gun run down an alley and a large truck speed away.

Police arriving at the scene found shell casings in the alley. Later a vehicle with bullet holes in it was stopped while travelling over the Burrard Street Bridge.

"That vehicle has been towed by our investigators as evidence," Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague said. "This is a very public shooting. It's fortunate that no one was killed."

He added the two incidents are related and the attack was targeted.

At deadline no suspects had been identified and Montague did not have any details about the identity of the truck's driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 604-717-2596.
