Helicopters and police dogs are being used to sniff out a possible murder suspect who may have snuck into Canada.

Ryan Jenkins, 32, is wanted for questioning in connection to the murder of his ex-wife, swimsuit model Jasmine Fiore, in California.

But he may have already escaped the U.S. after authorities found his car and an empty boat in Blaine, Wash. Wednesday.

Delta police have since launched an extensive manhunt for the man in case he made his way into B.C. through Point Roberts.

"We're on high alert and have deployed a lot of resources on this," said Const. Sharlene Brooks. "We want to make sure there is no risk to the public safety. We need to be cautious and take proactive measures in locating him."

Brooks said the department has initiated more patrols throughout the city, called in their dog squad and requested air support from the RCMP in their search.

She also urged Jekins himself to call the department at 604-946-4411 and ask for Sgt. Kelly Young.

"If he has entered Canada, it's through illegitimate means and we need to work that through," she said. "It's better to come forward than be sought."

The public is also being asked to report any suspicious activity or persons in the community.
