Authorities tight-lipped on fugitive's finances

Relationship was 'hell on earth' RCMP identify mystery woman in Jenkins case Hope community rattled by Jenkins suicide U.S. fugitives flee but can't outrun long arm of the law Ryan Jenkins found dead in B.C. hotel room

By DAVE DORMER, SUN MEDIA

Investigators on both sides of the border are staying relatively quiet regarding how much money accused killer Ryan Jenkins might have to fund his flight from the law.

As a contestant on the now shelved reality television show Megan Wants a Millionaire, Jenkins, 32, portrayed himself as a high-flying jet-setter with a $2.5-million fortune.

But police in Canada and authorities in the U.S. refused to say if that was true or if they are tracking him through credit cards or bank transactions.

“Despite the fact that CSI and all these other shows are out there, the police techniques we use, whether we’re looking for someone wanted in this case for an extradition matter or they’ve committed a crime here in Canada, we do try and keep that kind of stuff close to our chest,” said Sgt. Duncan Pound of the RCMP Federal Border Integrity program.

“The more we put out there in the public realm just how we find people, the harder the next people become to find.”

Pound also refused to say whether police in Canada were in contact with Jenkins’ family.

“We don’t want to float out there a checklist of what we’ve done, what we haven’t done or who we’ve spoken to and who we haven’t, whether it’s family or friends,” he said.

Jenkins’ mother, Nada Antic, lives in Vancouver and his father, Dan Jenkins, is a prominent Calgary architect.

On Saturday, the elder Jenkins confirmed to the Sun he has been in contact with Canadian authorities but declined to comment further.

Ryan Jenkins is facing murder charges after the mutilated body of his ex-wife, Jasmine Fiore, 28, a former swimsuit model, was found stuffed in a suitcase thrown a trash bin in Buena Park, Calif., just south of Los Angeles Aug. 15.

Bail has been set at US$10 million.

Jenkins has not been seen or heard from since reporting her missing later that same day and police believe he fled north and walked over the border in Canada.

Police said Jenkins should be considered armed and dangerous.

The U.S. Marshall Service is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to Jenkins’ arrest.
