A 31-year-old Halifax man faces a slew of charges after he allegedly
assaulted officers responding to a domestic dispute call Monday night and
tried to grab one of their guns.
Police said officers responded to a home on Portia White Court at about
10:40 p.m. When officers arrived, the suspect was in the driveway area.
The officers tried to engage him in conversation. Police said the man
punched one of the officers in the face, cutting his lip and breaking one of
his teeth.
According to police, the man then grabbed the officer's waist and tried to
take his gun.
Other officers arrived on scene, and the man proceeded to kick, punch and
spit on them, police said.
Officers shot the man with a Taser, and then took him to hospital.
Nelson Carvery is charged with two counts of assault, one count of assault
causing bodily harm, five counts of assaulting police, and one count each of
attempting to disarm police and resisting arrest.
