MONTREAL – Montreal police were searching near a city bridge Monday, investigating the case of two men who went missing after leaving a bar last Wednesday morning.

The search for roommates Vincent Lamoureux, 20, and Hugo Pereira, 22, focussed on the Viau bridge, which connects Montreal to Laval, and in the Riviere des Prairies below, after pieces of an Acura were found along the shore on the Laval side.

The two men, both from Laval, were travelling in an Acura when they were last seen.

Police would not speculate as to if or why the car may have ended up in the river.

“We will start by determining if the car is in fact in the water,” Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Larcousiere told a press conference from the site of the investigation. “From there, our collision investigators will reconstruct the scene.”

Divers and sonar-equipped police boats were brought in to search near the bridge.

The firefighters-in-training were reported missing last Tuesday after visiting the bar Au Diable Vert in Montreal.

Police say nobody has heard from them since they sent text messages as they left the bar.
