A teen is facing sexual assault and kidnapping charges after the abduction of a young girl in northern Manitoba Wednesday.
RCMP said a six-year-old girl was abducted while walking to school about 8:40 a.m. in The Pas, Manitoba. She was then taken to an area residence where she was sexually assaulted.
The girl was able to escape her attacker and notified her mother, who called police.
Utilizing information provided by the young victim, Mounties were able to identify her alleged attacker and apprehend him at a residence in The Pas later Wednesday morning.
The 17-year-old male suspect is being held in police custody pending a court appearance. RCMP said he faces charges of kidnapping and sexual assault.
The victim has been transported to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for further medical examination.
