Peanut recall over salmonella fears

By QMI Agency

The 400- and 700-gram bags of Selection Roasted BBQ Peanuts have been added to a growing recall of items that may have been contaminated with salmonella.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat the peanuts because they contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein ingredients that Basic Food Flavors has recalled in the U.S. and Canada.

The peanuts join a recall that includes potato chips, dips, soup mix, rice cakes and pretzels. A complete list of recalled items is available in the CFIA website.

CFIA said there have been no reported illnesses in Canada associated with the consumption of these products.

Salmonella can cause high fever, headaches, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
