Prime Minister Stephen Harper is offering his congratulations to newly-elected Alberta premier Alison Redford, while reminding her that he needs her to manage the Western province's energy sector carefully.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate her and her team on their election victory," Harper said in a release. "I look forward to continue working with Premier Redford on issues that matter to Albertans and all Canadians, including promoting jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in a time of global economic uncertainty."
Many federal Conservatives were supporting the Wild Rose Party in their bunker province of Alberta, seeing Redford as a left wing human rights lawyer who had accidentally won the leadership of the Progressive Conservatives.
"The PC party was coming on a bit stronger near the end, and there seemed to be some fear-mongering going on," said LaVar Payne, Conservative MP for Medicine Hat. "I work with both, I have five MLAs, all Wild Rose, in my area, and I will work with the Premier. We are all conservatives."
