IT'S A DOG'S LIFE

Taipei's dogs are living it up at hotels, complete with VIP suites and pools, that aim to ease the problem of strays that has plagued the city for decades. Hoping to discourage people from dumping unwanted pets on the streets, two Taipei proprietors have opened giant hotels dedicated to dogs, with pools, salons, classes and playrooms.

PYTHON CATCH A HOAX

A man who caught a 14-ft. python in a Florida drain pipe was charged with perpetrating a hoax after wildlife officers discovered he owned the snake and put it in the pipe. Justin Matthews, a professional animal trapper, later admitted he had "staged the event to call attention to a growing problem of irresponsible pet ownership," officials said on Thursday.
