Special delivery: 14-lb. baby 0
Baby, baby, baby — oh!
A southern California woman gave birth to a nearly 14-lb. boy, the North County Times reports.
Cynthia Sigler, of Vista, delivered Jayden Thursday morning. His birth weight of 13 pounds 14 ounces is nearly double that of his sister Jailyn, who was born seven pounds two ounces 2 1/2 years ago.
"When I saw how big he is, I understood why I was in so much pain," Sigler told the paper, adding that Jayden was born too big for most of the zero to two-months baby clothes she had waiting for him at home.
It's not clear where Jayden fits on the list of largest babies in the state or the country, but Sigler's obstetrician, Dr. Jerald White, said Jayden was the biggest baby he'd ever delivered in his nearly 50-year career.
After White performed the caesarean section, Jayden was kept in the neonatal ICU briefly due to low blood sugar. He was a giant among the babies in the unit, which is mostly for underweight infants born 5 lbs. or less.
In February, Wang Yujuan, of China, gave birth to a nearly 16-lb. boy, possibly setting the all-time record for that country's biggest baby.
