English domain names disappearing

By QMI Agency

If you've ever thought about starting a website, you'd better hurry.

The list of available domain names that use English words is starting to dwindle.

According to a new website, lastwordsleft.com, there are only 35,000 one-word domain names still available that use English words and phrases.

So if you want choreographically.com or witticism.net to be yours, you'd better get a move on.

Fortunately for most people, the website is only indexing .com and .net addresses. So if you're determined to get a specific domain for your business, you can still try to find regional extensions that are still available like .fr and .ru.

As of January 2010, there were more than 800 million registered domain names on the Internet. That number is more than double what it was only five years ago.

The world currently has more than 1.7 billion Internet users, the majority of whom are concentrated in Asia. As a percentage of the general population, though, North America takes the top prize for the most Internet users per capita.
