Lions bomb Winnipeg
Geroy scores two TDs in decisive winBy DANIEL WILSON, 24 HOURS
The Buzz: Perhaps in honour of Lions president and CEO Bob Ackles, who passed away earlier this week, the Lions finally rallied together as a team and soundly defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 42-24. Moment of Silence: Prior to kickoff, a moment of silence was observed for Ackles at Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg. In fact, each of the four CFL games this week featured a silent minute for the CFL legend. Action Jackson: Quarterback Jarious Jackson returned to the form that made him a CFL star last season, completing 19 of 24 passes and adding five touchdowns. Perhaps most impressive was his first drive, which saw him throw to four different receivers and going 75 yards on eight plays for the team’s first touchdown of the game. Highlight Reel: Geroy Simon reeled in a Jackson pass for a 75-yard TD to open the second half and added another trip to the end zone on the Leos next drive. The scores put the game out of reach for the Bombers. Glatt-iator: Linebacker Javier Glatt took two first half possessions away from Winnipeg with diving and rolling interceptions. Logan Lunges: Runningback Stefan Logan replaced Joe Smith next to QB Jackson and played great taking 18 carries for 140 yards, including a game high 66-yard dash through the Winnipeg defense. Crunch Time: Receiver Jason Clermont took two devastating hits during the game, but managed to keep the ball in his hands. Both fearless grabs later led to touchdowns. Goat for the Game: Bombers QB Kevin Glenn failed to put together any long offensive drives and was booed off the field by Winnipeg fans, leading to his replacement by Ryan Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie’s first drive at the Blue Bombers helm ended on an interception by Reggie Myles – his second of the season for the Lions. Stats Stupid: Jackson put together more passing yards in this week’s first half than he managed to throughout his entire effort last week against Saskatchewan. The Lions also scored more points in the first half against Winnipeg than they have in each of their first two complete games this season. Up Next: The Lions host the Blue Bombers in a return match next week at BC Place, with Winnipeg questioning who will lead them at quarterback. B.C. has definitely found theirs in Jackson.
