THE BUZZ: The Lions had a great opportunity to pull into a four-way tie in the West Division but failed to pick up a win, losing 27-18 in Calgary to the Stampeders.

PIERCING: Buck Pierce started the game strong but could not drive down the field late for a touchdown when it mattered, as the starting quarterback threw for only one TD - a 20 yard pass to Paris Jackson - and finished with 230 passing yards

MALL-STONE: The rookie runningback ran for over 100 yards for the second time of his career and went over 1,000 yards for the season. Mallett scored a 26-yard run to open the scoring in the second quarter, and finished the night with 136 rushing yards.

RUNNING BURRIS: QB Henry Burris scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half, one for seven yards and another for one yard. On the night, he completed 14 of 27 passes and threw for 197 yards. As for Calgary's ground game, running back Joffrey Reynolds ran for 151 yards in 17 carries, while Burris gained 56 yards himself.

CONTROVERSIAL: Calgary had three consecutive video reviews go their way when a Nick Lewis catch was ruled completed although the ball popped loose when he hit the ground. The second review happened the next play as Jermaine Copeland's touchdown was challenged by Wally Buono, but it was also ruled completed. Buono made another challenge on a Romby Bryant reception, but it was ruled a completed catch.

TURNOVERS: The Lions turned the ball over three times, including one interception thrown by Pierce and a fumble by O'Neil Wilson. Calgary, on the other handle, only had one turnover.

UP NEXT: The 5-7 Lions will return home next Friday to host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at B.C. Place. The two teams have split their meetings so far this season.
