A step has been taken in the direction of a possible move by the Toronto Argonauts to BMO Field.
The Canadian Football League board of governors heard from Argos co-owners David Cynamon and Howard Sokolowski today regarding the idea and the league, with the Argos, will now conduct a feasibility study on the issue.
“At its meeting earlier today, the Canadian Football League board of governors instructed the league office to work with the Toronto Argonauts to provide a detailed report on the feasibility of the city of Toronto’s BMO Field for CFL football,” CFL commissioner Mark Cohon said in a statement. “The board was assured this work will be undertaken as quickly as possible.”
Cynamon and Sokolowski still have not made clear whether they will keep the team or sell it to B.C. Lions owner David Braley. On Friday, Argos president Bob Nicholson said the Argos’ intention is to play at the Rogers Centre in 2010, but that could change.
The Argos have held talks with city officials about a move to BMO.
The field at BMO, which is suited for soccer only, is too short by CFL standards, but whether that could overlooked by the board remains to be determined.
