THE BUZZ: John Tavares put on a clinic with a five-point effort Tuesday at GM Place as the visiting New York Islanders chased Roberto Luongo from the net in a 5-2 win over the Canucks. It's the Islander's first win in Vancouver since 1999.
ALL 91: Heading into the game with only one goal in the last 21, Tavares scored his 19th on the powerplay at 11:45 into the first to double the Islanders' lead. The 2009 first overall pick also added assists on three other New York tallies, including a beautiful backhand feed to Matt Moulson for his 26th goal of the year. He added an empty netter to complete the five-point night.
FIRSTS: Dylan Reese, a seventh round draft pick in 2003, scored his first ever NHL goal and point to open the scoring. The 25-year-old was playing in just his seventh NHL game, after being acquired by the Islanders on March 1.
TWO IN TWO: Just over a minute after Moulson's goal made it 3-0, Kyle Wellwood picked up a Christian Ehrhoff rebound and fired it past Dwayne Roloson to put Vancouver on the board. Exactly two minutes later, Alex Burrows scored his 32nd of the year. Roloson finished with 35 saves.
STREAKS: Daniel and Henrik Sedin, who both had an assist on Burrows' tally, extends their point streaks to 11 and six games respectively. Both Ryan Kesler (13) and Mikael Samuelsson (7) had their streaks snapped.
INJURY: Mikael Samuelsson left after playing only four shifts in the third period. "He's being evaluated now so we'll know more tomorrow," said coach Alain Vigneault.
UP NEXT: Looking to bounce back from the loss, the Canucks hosts the top team in the West at GM Place Thursday when the powerhouse San Jose Sharks stroll into town.
